Czech Heritage on a Plate:
The Story Behind JJ’s Schnitzel
JJ’s Schnitzel is based upon a family legacy that was inspired by one special man – my father, my husband’s father-in-law and our three girl’s grandpa – Josef. Being born and raised in what was Czechoslovakia, my father exuded Czech culture, history and the accent. Growing up with this culture allowed me to learn all about the delicious dishes and drinks that enriched my palette. Schnitzel was always one of my favorites, and when I got married – to Chad Joseph, I introduced my husband to the dish which is how the recipe became what it is today.
Chad is an excellent cook and together, we tweaked, adjusted and finetuned our Schnitzel until we thought it was just right. My father always said his mother was the best cook which I am sure was true. However, when he tasted our final result, he said it was “better than back home” which is the ultimate compliment anybody could have given us.
Generally, Schnitzel is regarded as a German dish but our Schnitzel and our potato salad are not German – they are Czech. It is who we are, where we came from and our legacy.
JJ’s Schnitzel is called JJ for Josef & Joseph – the two men in my life and my girl’s lives that have inspired our family recipe and this business. JJ’s Schnitzel is owned by my husband and our three daughters who are little chefs in their own rit. I am fortunate to help out and observe my father’s legacy as others get to enjoy these tremendous dishes and the growth of JJ’s Schnitzel which will be passed on to our children who will undoubtedly never forget the best grandpa in the whole entire world.
